Senior Dustin Brode of Canfield, Ohio has decided to throw for Harvard University next season. Brode is the defending Ohio Division I shot put champion. He has also excelled in the weight throw this year. Last weekend he threw a new personal best of 66’02.00″ to win the Kent State High School Meet. That mark is currently the sixth furthest throw in the nation this year. Last season he also tossed the hammer 185’05” and holds a personal best of 63’02.00″ in the shot put. In speaking about his decision to the The Vindicator, a local Youngstown newspaper, Brode said that “Track is not really a spectator sport so [professionals] don’t make Shaquille O’Neal money.
