Lawson sets PR and Midles breaks meet record at WA State Championships

There were lots of highlights at this year’s Washington State High School Hammer Championships. Junior Jon Lawson from (Prairie, Vancouver, WA) won the boy’s competition with a lifetime best throw of 209’6″. The girl’s competition went to senior Olivia Midles (Capital, Olympia, WA), who won the girls competition with a new girl’s state meet record throw of 167’7 inches. Olivia won the title for the 7th time for a Capital High School student in the last 10 years. Jon also repeated his win from last year and will be looking for a third win next year when the meet moves east of the mountains to Spokane. Thanks to John Schultz of Centralia for his efforts in support of the hammer throw over the last five years by building a hammer cage and running several competitions. John was presented with a special award at the State meet for his efforts in hosting the meet over the last five years.
