Ashe defends U.S. junior title in hammer throw

Despite some foul foul trouble, high school senior Shelby Ashe defended her U.S. Junior National title on Saturday. Ashe took the lead in the first round with a throw of 58.34m (191-05). After another valid second round attempt, she fouled her final four throws. Still, she easily won over LSU freshman Karen Henning. Henning placed second with a throw of 56.24m (184-05). Third place went to Bowling Green University’s Brooke Pleger at 52.43m (172-00).
