Rudy Winkler has emerged a new challenger to Conor McCullough’s U.S. high school record in the boys hammer (260 feet).
The junior from Averill Park, N.Y. hit a new personal best of 251-1 on Monday while competing unattached at the Army Strong Throwing Series meet on May 7.
That throw put Winkler into some elite company. He joined McCullough, Walter Henning and Jake Freeman as the only members of the 250-foot club. Only McCullough, who set his high school best as a junior, has thrown farther prior to senior year.
