Foley takes Great Southwest hammer title with new best

Hammer throwers from Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, and Nevada converged Albuquerque this weekend for the Great Southwest Track and Field Classic. Senior Michael Foley (Norte Dame Preparatory, Scottsdale, AZ) threw a small personal best and new state record of 210’10” to win the men’s competition. Austin Cook (Overton, TX) and freshman Jacob Beene (Gilbert, AZ) also improved their best with throws over 180-feet. Cook had thrown 156’2″ last season and will now make his debut on this year’s national performance list, while Beene had already thrown 169′ this year. Ashley Weber (Buena, Sierra Vista, AZ) easily won the girl’s competition and was just a few feet shy of her own personal best. Cortney Miller (Calvary Chapel Christian, Las Vegas, NV) took second.
