Updated US High School Record Book

Before the start of each season HS Hammer.com updates its detailed record book which includes state records, class records, and deep all-time lists for both the hammer throw and weight throw. Today the records have been updated to include all 2013 results and it is clear that 2013 was a historic year.

The highlight of the year was the new national record and national senior class record by Rudy Winkler (Averill Park, NY). His throw of 260’05” added 5-inches to the pervious mark held by Conor McCullough. It also added more than four feet to McCullough’s senior class record. Charlie Ionata (Barrington, RI) also moved inside the all-time top 10 with his throw of 241’00”. Winkler is now enrolled at Cornell University and Ionata is at Wake Forest University. Winkler also moved up to third best all-time with the heavier 16-pound hammer and fifth best with the indoor 25-pound weight.

A new sophomore class record by Sabrina Gaitan (Spayberry, Marietta, GA) highlighted the updates to the girls’ list. Her new best of 192’05” also ranks tenth all-time among all high school throwers.

There were also 13 new state hammer throw records set during the season. Boys set seven records while the girls were close behind with six records.
