Back in 2010 the inaugural Youth Olympics Games took place in Singapore. Shelby Ashe (St. Pius X, Atlanta, GA) highlighted the competition for US hammer throwers by making the finals. This August the second edition will take place in Nanjing, China and qualifying for the US takes place this weekend in Florida. The competition is open to athletes born in 1997 and 1998, making the fields quite small for the qualifying competition. Both hammer throw competitions will take place on Friday evening.
