Kelly Named Rhode Island Athlete of the Year

After a third-place finish at New Balance Nationals, junior Adam Kelly (Barrington, RI) was named the 2013-14 Gatorade Rhode Island boys track and field athlete of the year. Earlier this year Kelly won the New Balance Indoors national title. At the Rhode Island state championship he was the runner-up in the hammer throw and a finalist in both the shot put and discus.

This is the second year in a row that a Barrington High School athlete has won the honor. Last season it went to Charlie Ionata, a runner-up at New Balance Outdoor Nationals. Ionata is now a freshman at Wake Forest University and will face off against Kelly at the USATF Junior Championships at the start of July.
