New York Indoor State Championships Results

With more than 60 competitors, the New York State Indoor Championships brought together the best throwers in the state in record number. The girl’s competition was the headline event featured the nation’s leader Jill Shippee (Shenendehowa, NY). However the surprise winner was Monae Cooper (New Rochelle, NY). Shippee fouled out of the competition and a near personal best by Cooper secured the win in her absence. Alexis Daniels (Binghamton, NY) placed second, also breaking 50 feet.

In the boy’s competition Colin Blair (Lancaster, NY) and Cameron Thompson (Lakeland/Panas, Cortlandt, NY) entered the competition with bests within inches of each other. And the competition was just as close. State leader Blair led the competition into the finals and extended his lead in the fourth round. However Thompson responded in the fifth round and took home the upset. Third, fourth, and fifth place finishers all tossed personal bests in the battle for bronze. In the end David Bernstein (Norwich, NY) added an impressive six and a half feet to his personal best to take home the final medla.
