Analyzing the 2019 high school hammer throw season
The end of the year is upon us, so it is time to start looking back at the highlights of the 2019 season. Already last month we looked at the 2019 high school hammer throw all-Americans and the final 2019 national performance lists, with over 250 throwers making the cut. Now we want to dig a bit beyond the quantity and into the quality.
Bob Gourley’s national list ranks all boys over 160 feet and girls over 130 feet. If we look at the farther distances, 2019 showed better than average number of throwers at all levels. The full analysis is below, but in one category we also tied the all-time high: the 22 boys over 200 feet in 2019 ties the high water mark of throwers over this barrier in a single year.
Stay tuned for more analysis in the coming weeks, including a look at the top states in 2019 and reviewing all records set and all-time best performances from the season.
