USATF Youth Outdoor Championships (IL) Results

Just a few days after the USATF Junior Championships in Sacramento, the USATF National Youth Outdoor Championships took place in Illinois on Monday with athletes competing across several age groups. Throw1Deep throwers from Georgia swept the 17-18 year old category with wins from Shannah Mallett (Creekview, Canton, GA ) and Jason Judge (Walton, Marietta, GA). In the younger age group, freshman Abby Venglass (Rancho Cucamonga, Etiwanda, CA) threw a personal best for the win, while Joseph Ryan (Massapequa, NY) was also a winner. Read more

USATF Junior National Championships (CA) Results

Despite a heat wave, the top junior throwers in the US gathered in Sacramento this weekend for the USATF Junior Championships. The junior championships is a unique competition as it is open to all athletes born in 1998 or later, allowing many college freshman to also enter. Junior men also throw the 6-kilogram international implement, which is more than a pound heavier than the standard high school hammer. Despite the added competition, it was a high school thrower that won the women’s competition. Alyssa Wilson (Donovan Catholic, Toms River, NJ) set a season’s best to by the narrowest of margins: one centimeter. Molly Leppelmeier (McComb, OH) added seven feet to her personal best to finish third overall, and the second best high school thrower. Shelby Moran (Sherwood, OR) also improved her best and came within inches of the Oregon state record in fourth place. Read more

Centralia Hammer Meet 9 (WA) Results

Junior Ian Frost (Mary M. Knight, Elma, WA) extended his personal best and state lead at the most recent Centralia meet on Tuesday. Frost also continues to move up the all-time top 10 throwers in state history. In the girl’s competition Karlee Freeman (Raymond, WA) extended her personal best in both the high school and open competitions. At the end of the day her new best measured 141’07”, more than 10 feet over her old best. Read more

California High School Hammer Championships Results

After breaking 200 feet for the first time last weekend, Silas Hurst (Santiago Corona, Corona, CA) improved his personal best again last weekend at the California High School Hammer Championships. His best mark of 206’1″ won him his first title. In the girl’s competition Miranda Zinola (Homestead, Cupertino, CA) added six feet to her best to secure the win. Read more

CIAC Hammer Throw Championship (CT) Results

While held afer the standard state championships, Connecticut is a rare state where the high school federation officially sanctions a hammer throw state championship. Last week the CIAC Hammer Throw Championships wsa held on Tuesday and Thursday in New Britain with state leaders Christian Sturm (St. Paul Catholic, Bristol, CT) and Brittany Jones (Bloomfield, CT) capturing the titles. Jones was the most impressive in her victory as she came within a foot of her personal best and won the competition by nearl 20 feet. Read more

Evan Hardin (Harrison, Kennesaw, GA) and Makenli Forrest (Woodward Academy, College Park, GA) took home the titles at the Georgia State Hammer Championships held earlier this month. Read more

New Balance Nationals (NC) Championship Results

After a strong indoor season with the weight where he missed out on the indoor national title by just two inches, shot putter Jordan Geist (Cabot, PA) won New Balance Nationals Outdoors in spectacular fashion. In his first hammer meet of his career, four of his five throws were long enough to win. His best mark of 238’09” won by 25 feet, is a new national lead and is tied for the 12th best mark all-time. He also won in the shot put where, as in the hammer, his best throw came in the final round. Jacob Wickey (Medina, OH) took second place with a personal best, while former national leader Michael Feldman (Tottenville, Staten Island, NY) finished in third. Read more

New Balance Nationals (NC) Emerging Elite Results

The New Balance Nationals action started on Friday and Saturday with the Emerging Elite competition. Rhode Island state champion Zeke Cohen (Classical, Providence, RI) won the boy’s competition. After losing the lead in the final round, he responded with the winning throw. In the girl’s competition Amanda Howe (Southington, CT) was just inches from her best while winning a close battle with Natasha Stamp (Grayson, Loganville, GA), who hit a 10 foot personal best. Starts Lists for New Balance Nationals Released

The premier high school competition of the season starts on Friday in Greensboro, North Carolina. Top throwers from around the country will gather for the 2017 New Balance Nationals Outdoor. The start lists have been announced and feature a top notch field. In the boys competition nine of the nation’s top ten throwers will be there, led by national leader Michael Feldman (Tottenville, Staten Island, NY). The girl’s competition will feature defending champion Jill Shippee (Shenendehowa, Clifton Park, NY) against a strong field. Read more
