Clemson Throws Fest 6 (SC)

Freshman Lauren Chambers (Kell, Marietta, GA) broke her own national class record in the weight throw on Sunday. After fouls in the first two rounds, Chambers managed to make finals by heaving a throw of 14.39 meters (47’02.50″) in the third round. She concluded with two more throws over 45 feet.

While Chambers has thrown farther this season, her personal best was thrown at an outdoor competition. Sunday’s mark was her indoor personal best and therefore met the qualifications for an indoor national class record. Her previous official national class record was set at 46’03.25″ in January.

Y2K6 Open (GA)

Lauren Chambers (Kell, Marietta, GA) and Emily Bernhardt (Lassiter, Marietta, GA) both turned in solid performances over the weekend in Georgia. Chambers, the national freshman class record holder, improved her season best to 49’11.00″. That mark is a three foot improvement for Chambers, but, since it was thrown in an outdoor competition that was not part of an indoor meet, it will not count as a new national class record. Bernhardt’s throw of 55’00.00″ was not far from her season best. She continues to hold a large lead atop the national performance list.
