USATF Junior Championships (OR) Men’s Results

Adam Kelly (Barrington, RI) and Bobby Colantonio (Barrington, RI) have been battling it out all season long. On Saturday they face tougher competition at the USATF Junior National Championships including Colin Minor and Brock Eager, both top five high school throwers from last season who have moved on to college. USATF Junior Championships (OR) Women’s Results

After wining New Balance Nationals last weekend, Haley Showalter (Valor Christian, Highlands Ranch, CO) travelled to Eugene to face even tougher competition at the USATF Junior Championships. The USATF Junior Championships are open to all athletes born in 1996 or younger, thus allowing some college freshman to take part. Showalter won the meet last year but college freshman and former top high school hammer throwers Lena Giger and Nyla Woods posed strong threats this year. And the two top seeds were actually newcomers to the event: Molli Detloff and Alison Ondrusek. Read more

Golden West Invite (CA) Results

goldenwestAfter nearly breaking 200 feet at the Northern California Hammer Championships last weekend, Steven Tofanelli (Del Campo, Fair Oaks, CA) easily surpassed the barrier en route to winning this year’s Golden West Invitational. Emelda Malm-Annan (Monterey Trail, Elk Grove, CA) also improved her personal best again to win the girl’s competition with a throw of 53.57 meters (175’09”). The traditional west coast championship had fewer out of state competitors this year, however Haleigh Sudbeck (Camas, WA) made the trip down to place second in the girl’s event. Read more

Northern California Hammer Championships Results

Emelda Malm-Annan (Monterey Trail, Elk Grove, CA) won big at the Northern California High School Hammer Championships last Sunday. The senior threw a big personal best and state-leading mark of 53.17 meters (174’5″) to beat out a personal best from Caitlin McClain (Delta Charter, Tracy, CA) of 42.44 meters (139’3″) in her season debut. Great Southwest Classic (NM) Results

Hammer throwers from ten states gathered in Albuquerque on Friday to compete at the annual Great Southwest Classic. The competition is quickly becoming the top hammer meet in the west and this year it produced some big throws. Senior Haley Showalter (Valor Christian, Highlands Ranch, CO) highlighted the girl’s competition with a new nation-leading mark. Three of her throwers surpassed the old nation-leading mark, and her best throw of 191’0″ was just two feet off of her personal best from last year. Riley Scocco (Shorewood Christian, Seattle, WA) took second and Alexandra Collins (Cactus Shadows, Scottsdale, AZ) captured third. Read more

2014 national leader Haley Showalter (Valor Christian, Highlands Ranch, CO) made her season debut over the weekend and came within inches of the national lead. Read more

Grand Canyon State Winter Games (AZ) Results

Earlier this month, some of Arizona’s top throwers started their season, led by Jacob Beene (Gilbert, AZ). Beene is the third-best returning hammer thrower this year and already added more than seven feet to his personal best to open up his season. The throw also breaks the state record he set last season. The meet also featured a personal best by Clay Campbell (Verrado, Buckeye, AZ) and by girl’s state leader Alexandra Collins (Cactus Shadows, Scottsdale, AZ). Read more
