Clemson Opener (SC)

Freshman Lauren Chambers (Kell High School, Marietta, GA) opened the season with a bang last Friday by setting a new national freshman class weight throw record at the Clemson Opener hosted by Clemson University in South Carolina.

Chambers, pictured to the right, broke the record by a few inches on her first throw by setting a new personal best of 44’11.75″. She improved to 46’01.50″ on her second throw and fouled her final attempt. Chambers placed 15th in the competition behind several collegaite throwers and some of her Throw 1 Deep teammates. The results, with the winner and participating high school, are attached below.

The previous record was set by Arianna Lugo (Los Altos, Hacienda Heights, CA) last season. Her record throw of 44’08.25″ came at Mountain T’s Invitational at Northern Arizona University on February 5, 2005.
