BC Juvenile Championships (BC)
Walter Henning (St. Anthony’s, South Huntington, NY) threw a new personal best with the 5 kilogram hammer to break the national youth hammer throw record. Henning competed as a guest at the British Columbia (Canada) Juvenile Championships on Saturday afternoon and launched a personal best effort of 79.14m (259’07”) on his fifth attempt.
The youth age category is used in international competitions. To be classified as a youth, the athlete must be under 18 years of age on December 31 of that year. Last year, Henning competed placed 8th at the World Youth Championships with a then personal best of 232’07”. His mark is currently the top youth throw in the world so far this season. Next month he will head to China to compete in the World Junior (under 20) Championships with the 6 kilogram implement.
