6/16/11 U.S. High School Hammer List
Brad Bolton (El Toro, Lake Forest, CA) took over the national lead this week with a personal best of 238’09” throw at the California State High School Hammer Championships. Bolton was extremely consistent, with three attempts over 230 feet. Greg Skipper (Oregon City, OR), the former national leader, also improved this week with a new Oregon State record.
Also at the California Championships, Cara McClain (John C. Kimball, Tracy, CA) moved into the top ten with a new personal best to 165’05”. The biggest improvement on the women’s side was by Diana Levy (Kennesaw Mountain, Kennesaw, GA). Levy improved to 198’10” and is now ranked fourth all-time in the event. She is also on the verge of becoming the fourth high school girl in history to break 200-feet. Fellow Georgian Taylor Dupont (Star’s Mill, Peachtree City, GA) also had a nice improvement to 170’01” this past week.

Although the 5k hammer throw is not normally contested in the U.S. it is conducted
in some meets. Boys’ 5k performances of 160’ or more in an officially sanctioned
meet will be included in the performance list providing the athlete is 16 or 17
years old through December 31, 2011 (born in 1994 or 1995) in accordance with
IAAF guidelines for Youth Athletes.
