Meet Recap: European Cup Winter Throwing 2012

This weekend I participated in the European Cup Winter Throwing for the third straight year The idea of the meet is to provide a winter championship for events, such as the hammer throw, that cannot compete indoors. Since we throw outside a warmer location is ideal, yet this is the first time in three years that this goal was actually accomplished.

This year’s edition of the meet was held in Bar, Montenegro, a small Adriatic port town in Montenegro. With picturesque mountains, a ring just 100 meters from the sea, and warm weather, the conditions were perfect. After a strong opening meet last weekend I was hoping to throw 65 or 66 meters this weekend especially after being motivated by Sultana‘s massive Canadian record yesterday of 75.04 meters. Alas it was not to be.

I’ve got sunburn while watching you throw. My face and neck is all red and you didn’t even break 65m :). I recorded your demonstration of the art of getting the hammer stuck permanently in the cage.

The ring problems were evident with other guys as well, in U23 and your group B, but it was a good day, despite the results being lower than expected from all.

Anyway, I recorded four of your attempts, close to the cage, the video quality is not that great due to a poor camera, but if you want them, let me know, although I saw Brits filming you as well, so you probably already have the videos.

It was a very nice day and a nice weekend despite my bad performance. You should have said hello, but unfortunately I have already left since I have to work tomorrow. Thanks for coming to watch us all though and I’m sorry I wasn’t able to give you a better throw to see, I just forgot to push the hammer 🙂

I was looking for you some time after your competition but I couldn’t find you. You were probably staying in Princess and left there to rest or I just missed you. But, there’s always a next time.

Martin, so it was slippery in Bar. Well, sorry to hear that. I told you it’s a good circle, and throwing area, but I guess this just proves the fact on feelingbeing subjective.. Anyway, you’ll get it in May I don’t doubt. TTY

Actually this was a new ring in the field next to the stadium, so it was likely different than the one you tried. Either way, I should had adapted to the situation.
