New England Hammer Throw Championships (RI) Results
Just days after the Rhode Island State Championships several throwers returned to set new bests and meet records at this year’s New England Hammer Throw Championships. Owen Russell (Moses Brown, Providence, RI) added eight feet to his personal best to win the boy’s competition. He also became the fourth thrower this season to break 230 feet in the process. Russell also set a meet record with the 6-kilogram hammer later in the day. Courtney Jacobsen (Toll Gate, Warwick, RI) set also set a meet record in the high school competition as she took down newly crowned state champion Meagan Malloy (Smithfield, Esmond, RI). Then she came back to also set a personal best with the 3-kilogram hammer.
