Conventional Wisdom
“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”
-Albert Einstein
Conventional wisdom is not something that is bad. It leans heavily on the rational mind. It is what everyone else is doing. It is the accepted path, it is the path many other have followed, but is it good enough? In all probability it is what has gotten us where we are, but that may not be good enough to take the next step to be the best. Take a step back and honestly assess where you are and how you got there. Then look at what you need to do to move beyond conventional wisdom to move forward and upward. Look at conventional wisdom as a starting point. It is important to see the same landscape with new eyes, to tap into your intuition, to ask different more pointed questions or even ask the same questions of new people. Progress implies going beyond conventional wisdom, moving away from what you have always done and exploring new territory. If you do what you have always done you will get what you have always gotten. Challenge yourself to grow, to innovate not to imitate.
