Ohio Indoor Track & Field Championships Results

With five throwers in the nation’s top eight, the Ohio state weight throw championship featured some nice matchups on Saturday. In fact, the competition is so close in Ohio this year that state leader Logan Kusky (Austintown Fitch, Youngstown, OH) finished just fifth in the Division I competition. Junior Nick Lane (Bowling Green, OH) took the lead in the third round and held on for the win with a throw of 73’10.75″, but there was even more positioning behind him with lots of fireworks in the last round. Jake Wickey (Medina, OH) started off the final round action by moving from fifth to second on his final attempt. He was followed by Brent Fairbanks (Austintown Fitch, Youngstown, OH) who moved from fifth to third with a personal best. Nik Curtiss (Lancaster, OH), who had just been bumped down two spots off the podium, then improved to regain the silver medal position. In the end Kusky was the odd one out having been bumped off the podium and down into fifth position.

In the girl’s competition Shoshana Isis Trotman (Centerville, OH) threw a personal best to win. Her top throw of 56’11” secured the win by nearly ten feet. The next best marks of the day were in the lower divisions where state leader Carrol Pauley (Riverdale, Mount Blanchard, OH) set a meet record of 54’5.50″ to hold off Daija Young (Trinity, Garfield Heights, OH).
