6/9/16 U.S. High School Hammer List
Several more state championships took place last weekend, giving throwers the chance to improve on the big stage. Nick Lane (Bowling Green, OH) was one of several with improvements at the Ohio State Championships and now sits seventh on the national list. Meanwhile Matt Slagus (North Pocono, Moscow, PA) went out west to the Iron Wood Classic and improved his best to break into the nation’s top ten this week. Several other throwers also improved this week, bringing the total of athletes over 200 feet to 16 so far this season. The girl’s list was relatively quiet this week, with no improvements in the top 20.

Although the 3k hammer (girls) and 5k hammer (boys) throw are not normally
contested in the U.S. it is conducted in some meets at the Youth level. Girls
3k performances of 140’ and boys’ 5k performances of 160’ or more in an
officially sanctioned meet will be included in the performance list providing
the athlete is no older than 17 years old through December 31, 2016
(born no earlier than in 1999).
