California High School Hammer Championships Results

Last weekend the California State High School Hammer Championships took place. Once again the meet was held in two locations to allow more throwers to participate. Below are summaries and compiled results of both competitions.

Corbin Chronister (Liberty, Bakersfield, CA) had not competed since last year’s championships, but nevertheless added 45 feet to his best to secure his first state title. In second place sophomore Silas Hurst (Santiago Corona, Corona, CA) broke 190 feet for the first time. And Mason Crane (Corona del Mar, Newport Beach, CA) took third, giving the Southern California throwers all three podium positions.

In the girl’s competition Caitlin McClain (John C Kimball, Tracy, CA) won in the absence of national leader Joy McArthur (Mater Dei, Santa Ana, CA) who took 18th place at the World Junior Championships last week. It was McClain’s first title after finishing as the runner-up last year. Alicia Viveros (Liberty, Bakersfield, CA) threw a personal best for second and Elizabeth Jones (Corona del Mar, Newport Beach, CA) took third place in a close competition.
