Nick,
When you send you go to a weekend invitational, is a complete track team (sprinters, jumpers, throwers & distance) brought to the invite to compete as a team or just the top throwers?
I think that at a scholastic level, team competition needs to be emphasized more. I am very fortunate to be in Minnesota where we have an separate true team state meet.True team uses different scoring that emphasizes depth across all the events, not just having a 2-3 blue-chip athletes. http://www.mshsca.org/page/show/2375969-true-team
