Rhode Island State Championships Results

After finishing as a runner-up last year, junior Gianna Rao (Ponaganset, North Scituate, RI) won her first state title. Her winning throw was yet another mark over 180 feet, and more than ten feet over runner-up Samantha Andrews (Lincoln, RI). Both Andrews and bronze medalist Faith Polando (Barrington, RI) were just off of their personal bests.

In the boy’s competition Zeke Cohen (Classical, Providence, RI) was the surprise winner. His teammate Jacob Furland (Classical, Providence, RI) recently took the state lead and Jared Briere has also put together a strong year. But Briere had to settle for silver and Furland Bronze as Cohen hit 207’8″ in the second round to secure the win.
