3/22/18 U.S. High School Hammer List
The outdoor season is barely underway, but already some big throws are showing up on the first national performance list of the season. Just last weekend, three state records fell on the girl’s side. Samantha Kunza (Timberland, Wentzville, MO) added 25 feet to her best from last season, broke the Missouri record, and moved up to seventh all-time. Out west, Shelby Moran (Sherwood, OR) added ten feet to her best to break the Oregon state record she missed by just inches last year. And Jordan Fong (Kentlake, Kent, WA) set a new Washington standard at last weekend’s Centralia Hammer Meet. The girl’s weren’t the only ones to produce good throws early. Four boys were also already over 200 feet.

Although the 3k hammer (girls) and 5k hammer (boys) throw are not normally
contested in the U.S. it is conducted in some meets at the Youth level. Girls
3k performances of 140’ and boys’ 5k performances of 160’ or more in an
officially sanctioned meet will be included in the performance list providing
the athlete is no older than 17 years old through December 31, 2018
(born no earlier than in 2001).
