Track and Field News announces 2019 hammer throw all-Americans
Over the past week Track and Field News has released their annual high school all-American teams. In the hammer throw, three boys and three girls are given all-American honors. National leaders Samantha Kunza (Timberland, Wentzville, MO) and Trey Knight (Ridgefield, WA) led the way. Both were repeat all-Americans, with Knight also being the only 2018 event leader amongst all the event to repeat in 2019. He was undefeated this year, moved to third all-time in high school history, and also was fourth overall amongst all events in the athlete of the year voting. Interestingly, all three of the boys all-Americans will return next year.
Kunza was also undefeated and had 8 of the 10 farthest throws in the country this year. Overall, Rhode Island throwers took half of the all-American honors, led by New Balance Nationals champion Annika Kelly (Barrington, RI). You can see the complete list of boys and girls all-Americans on the Track and Field News webpage.
