Nike Indoor Nationals (NY) Results

The first of two championship meets started on Friday. Both Nike Indoor Nationals and New Balance Nationals Indoors took place over the weekend in New York. Scheduling allowed the top boys to compete at Nike on Friday and New Balance on Saturday. Unfortunately both girls finals were held on Friday so athletes had to choose one or the other. At the Nike meet Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan (Woonsocket, RI) threw 85 feet in his second straight competition to easily win, with local thrower Michael Pinckney (HS For Construction, Ozone Park, NY) tossing a personal best to also break 80 feet and take second. National leader Giavonna Meeks (Northfield, Denver, CO) claimed the girl’s title over Olivia O’Connor (Hillhouse, New Haven, CT).

A big improvement by Tarik Robinson-O´Hagan (Woonsocket, RI) helped him break the meet record, Rhode Island State record, and move up to 5th all-time in the country.

State leader Liangie Calderon (Coventry, RI) claimed the Rhode Island title over the weekend. On the boy’s side, in the absence of Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan (Woonsocket, RI), the win went to Asher Robbins (Barrington, RI), who won by more than eight feet.

The top throwers in Rhode Island competed across three Class Championships on Saturday. Liangie Calderon (Coventry, RI) and Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan (Woonsocket, RI) produced the top marks across all classes.

Millrose Games (NY) Results

There was lots of action in New York on Thursday. National leader Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan (Woonsocket, RI) took the early lead only to see Michael Pinckney (High School For Construction, Ozone Park, NY) pass him with his first ever throw over 80 feet. Robinson-O’Hagan then responded with an even bigger throw of 82’3″, enough to move to 10th all time and second best ever from Rhode Island. In the girl’s competition Katherina Powers (Hopkinton, MA) captured the win.

Rhode Island Boys Division Championships Results

Liam Capozza (Barrington, RI) and Andrew Harmon (North Kingstown, RI) were the top throwers across four divisions of competition at the Rhode Island Boys Division Championships. Both Capozza and Harmon nearly broke 70 feet for the first time in winning their respective divisions.

The weekend action at the Armory saw teammates Gary Moore Jr. (Hillhouse, New Haven, CT) and Olivia O’Connor (Hillhouse, New Haven, CT) capture wins. The pair of Connecticut throwers easily outdistanced the field, with O’Connor also throwing a personal best.

More than 100 weight throwers competed on Saturday at the World Trophy Invitational in Providence. National leader Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan (Woonsocket, RI) took home the victory on the boy’s side and Aviana Rezendes (Classical, Providence, RI) won the girl’s competition.

East Coast Championship (RI) Results

National leader Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan (Woonsocket, RI) captured the victory at Saturday’s East Coast Championship in Rhode Island. Not only did he win by seven feet, he also captured the meet record by less than an inch. Behind him was Asher Robbins (Barrington, RI) with personal best for second place. In the girl’s competition Aviana Rezendes (Classical, Providence, RI) hit a personal best for the win as well.

Michael Pinckney (HS For Construction, Ozone Park, NY) racked up a big win at the US Air Force Hispanic Games on Saturday. Gary Moore (Hillhouse, New Haven, CT) also launched a new personal best in second place. His teammate Olivia O’Connor (Hillhouse, New Haven, CT) also won the girl’s competition.
