Classical Classic (RI) Results

Another week and another few inches closer to the state record for Bobby Colantonio (Barrington, RI). Colantonio added five inches to his national lead on Saturday to win the Classical Classic. He now stands just two feet and an inch away from the 17 year old state record held by Jacob Freeman. Jared Briere (Woonsocket, RI) and Mike Coppolino (Cumberland, RI) turned in strong performances for second and third respectively. And Dilyn Cote (Woonsocket, RI) placed fourth after adding a half foot to his best. Read more

Cumberland Invitational (RI) Results

Gianna Rao (Ponaganset, North Scituate, RI) took the win at this years Cumberland Invitational over a strong field featuring four of the state’s top five throwers. Rao, the nation’s leading sophomore, turned in a convincing performance with three throws good enough for the win. Meagan Malloy (Smithfield, Esmond, RI) took second, and Lysah Russell (Classical, Providence, RI) placed third. Read more

Rhode Island Boys Division Championships Results

National leader Bobby Colantonio (Barrington, RI) produced the top mark among all divisions. His throw of 246’4″ to win the Eastern Division is his second result toss ever. Jared Briere (Woonsocket, RI) was just two inches off of his season’s best to place first in the Northern Division. Adrian Matos (Central, Providence, RI) was just off of his best too in winning then Central Division. And Ivan Goretoy (West Warwick, RI) won the Southern Division. Rhode Island Girls Division Championships Results

Rhode Island throwers competed across four Division Championships from Monday through Wednesday with Courtney Jacobsen (Toll Gate, Warwick, RI) leading the way. She produced her fourth best throw of all-time to win the Central Division over Lysah Russell (Classical, Providence, RI). Other division winners included a personal best by Faye Gauthier (West Warwick, RI) to win the Southern Division, sophomore Gianna Rao (Ponaganset, North Scituate, RI) in the Northern Division, and freshman Annika Kelly (Barrington, RI) in the Eastern Division. Schomp Invitational (RI) Results

National leader Courtney Jacobsen (Toll Gate, Warwick, RI) easily won the girl’s competition at this year’s Schomp Invitational an in the process set a new meet record. In second place Gianna Rao (Ponaganset, North Scituate, RI) improved her best for the second straight week, as did freshman Annika Kelly (Barrington, RI) in third. Kelly has the top freshman mark in the country. Senior Mike Coppolino (Cumberland, RI) added more than two feet to his best to win the boy’s competition. Read more

International Implement Invitational (RI) Results

The annual International Implement Invitational gives throwers a chance to compete with international implements like the 3-kilogram (under 18 girls), 5-kilogram hammer (under 18 boys), 6-kilogram hammer (under 20 boys), and more. This year’s meet featured three meet records by Courtney Jacobsen (Toll Gate, Warwick, RI) with the 4-kilogram hammer and Bobby Colantonio (Barrington, RI) in both the international junior 6-kilogram and senior 7.26-kilogram hammers. Both of Colantonio’s marks also now lead the nation, while Jacobsen already held the national lead in her event. Read more

Knights of Columbus Relays (RI) Results

Rhode Island had it’s first big invitational meet of the year, where nearly 100 throwers participated and many of the top throwers started their outdoor campaigns. Indoor national champion Bobby Colantonio (Barrington, RI) was within one inch of his personal best from last year, a mark which ranked eight all-time in the US. The mark also easily moves him into the national lead. Mike Coppolino (Cumberland, RI) added 16 feet to his personal best from last year to break 200 feet for the first time. In the girl’s competition Courtney Jacobsen (Toll Gate, Warwick, RI) was just two feet off of her best from last year and the fourth best in the nation so far in 2016. Lysah Russell (Classical, Providence, RI) threw a personal best for second place, and sophomore Gianna Rao (Ponaganset, North Scituate, RI) was more than 20 feet over her best from last year in third place. Weightarama 2016 (RI) Results

Senior Lysah Russell continued her hot streak. After wins and personal bests at the Rhode Island and New England Championships in the previous weeks, Russell again won at the Weightarama meet in Providence on Sunday. The Weightarama meet is traditionally the last big meet before New Balance Indoors. Russell start off the competition slow, but improved in each of the first four rounds, culminating in a throw of 56’3.25″, less than a foot off of her best set last week. Once again Courtney Jacobsen (Toll Gate, Warwick, RI) was close behind in second place. In the boy’s competition Bobby Colantonio (Barrington, RI) captured the win easily over Jared Brier (Woonwocket, RI) and also came back to set a meet record with the heavier 35-pound implement. New England High School Weight Throw Championships (RI) Results

After winning the Rhode Island State Championships with a personal best in February, Lysah Russell (Classical, Providence, RI) returned to competition with another best and another win at the New England High School Weight Throw Championships. In the process she also produced the best throw in the state this year. Read more

Rhode Island Indoor State Championships Results

Another meet, another win for Bobby Colantonio (Barrington, RI). Colantonio captured his first ever indoor state title on Saturday, just two days after winning the Millrose Games in New York. Jared Brier (Woonsocket, RI) took second and Abraham Salako (Bishop Hendricken, Warwick, RI) added nearly three feet to his personal best to make it onto the podium. Read more
