Hammerama 2015 (RI) Results

Adam Kelly (Barrington, RI) has travelled coast to coast over the last week, but after returning home he still found some energy on Sunday to launch a new personal best at Hammerama 2015. His winning throw of 241’11” easily took the title by more than 40 feet. He also produced a solid mark with the collegiate hammer, going over 200 feet again and placing second in a close competition behind post-collegiate thrower Wilfredo de Jesus. Read more

New England Hammer Throw Championships (RI) Results

Just days after the Rhode Island State Championships several throwers returned to set new bests and meet records at this year’s New England Hammer Throw Championships. Owen Russell (Moses Brown, Providence, RI) added eight feet to his personal best to win the boy’s competition. He also became the fourth thrower this season to break 230 feet in the process. Russell also set a meet record with the 6-kilogram hammer later in the day. Courtney Jacobsen (Toll Gate, Warwick, RI) set also set a meet record in the high school competition as she took down newly crowned state champion Meagan Malloy (Smithfield, Esmond, RI). Rhode Island State Championships Results

Junior Bobby Colantonio (Barrington, RI) came out on top to win his second consecutive Rhode Island state championships on Saturday and the third consecutive title for Barrington High School. Colantonio faced close competition from his teammate Adam Kelly (Barrington, RI). Kelly had won their last two meetings, but it was Colantonio who took the early lead in round one, which was good enough to secure the win. An improvement in round four extended his mark one foot to 234’7″. Kelly finish in second, and Mike Alvernaz (Barrington, RI) completed the Barrington podium sweep. Read more

Hendricken Invitational (RI) Results

Just one week out from the Rhode Island State Championships and Adam Kelly (Barrington, RI) won his second straight showdown against teammate and state leader Bobby Colantonio (Barrington, RI). Kelly led the competition from start to finish with a third round best that nearly eclipsed his personal record. Despite three sector fouls to close out the competition, he was able to hold on for the win. Jared Briere (Woonsocket, RI) was very close to his own best to place third. Read more

Mt. Pleasant Performance Meet (RI) Results

In their final showdown before the Rhode Island State Championships, state leader Courtney Jacobsen (Toll Gate, Warwick, RI) captured a very close win against Alva Hicks (Classical, Providence, RI). Jacobsen’s best of 172’1″ was just 8 inches ahead of Hicks, who threw a new season’s best in the competition. The improvement also puts Hicks second in the state. Meagan Malloy (Smithfield, Esmond, RI) also had a personal best to place third. Read more

Rhode Island Freshman State Championship Results

Joangely Mata (Mt. Pleasant, Providence, RI) held off Faith Polando (Barrington, RI) to win the state freshman championship on Tuesday. Polando increased her personal best by ten feet, but state freshman leader Mata was able to win the girl’s title by more than five feet. Evan Grivers (Lincoln, RI) won the boy’s title in an even closer competition, beating Yanzel Dominguez (Central Falls, RI) by less than one foot. Read more

Rhode Island Class Championships Results

The top Rhode Island throwers competed across three class championships on Saturday. Adam Kelly (Barrington, RI) stopped the winning streak of national leader Bobby Colantonio (Barrington, RI) with a narrow win in the Class B championship. Kelly and Colantonio traded the lead throughout the competition with Kelly’s best throw coming on his last attempt. Colantonio responded with an improvement, but ended up less than two feet short of the win. Read more

Classical Classic (RI) Results

Junior Bobby Colantonio (Barrington, RI) continued his hot streak on Saturday by improving his best another five feet. The national leader now holds a personal best of 243’7″, which ranks him seventh all-time among high school throwers nationwide, fourth best among juniors. The mark also broke his school record and moved him up to second all-time in Rhode Island. Adam Kelly (Barrington, RI) also had a strong performance for second place, while Joseph Palazzo (Classical, Providence, RI), Evan Grivers (Lincoln, RI) and Adrian Matos (Central, Providence, RI) also won their respective divisions. Cumberland Invitational (RI) Results

Indoor state champion Alva Hicks (Classical, Providence, RI) came out on top at the annual Cumberland Invitational. After Courtney Jacobsen’s (Toll Gate, Warwick, RI) personal best earlier in the week, it was Hick’s time to shine as she threw a new best of 167’9″ to win the competition. Jacobsen finished second, less than two feet behind. Lysah Russell (Classical, Providence, RI) also won a close battle for third place. Read more

2015 Rhode Island Division Championships Results

The post season began in Rhode Island earlier this week as athletes competed across four divisional championships. The biggest improvement was by Courtney Jacobsen (Toll Gate, Warwick, RI) improved her best by nearly ten feet en route to a win in the Central Division. Her new best of 178’6″ is also the third best mark in the nation. On the boy’s side the top marks once again came from the Barrington throwers as Bobby Colantonio (Barrington, RI) narrowly edged Adam Kelly (Barrington, RI) to set a meet record and win the Eastern Division title. Sophomore Jared Briere (Woonsocket, RI) also improved his personal best to win the Northern Division Championship. Read more
