GAIN 2022 announcement

GAIN 2022 will be held June 14 to 18 at Rice University in Houston Texas. This is the fifteenth year of GAIN; it started 2007 with twelve attendees and four instructors and has grown to ninety attendees from all over the world and eighteen faculty. GAIN is a community of professional’s eager to learn and willing to share ideas and information.

Announcing the GAIN Master Class Series

GAIN is a community of professionals eager to learn and willing to share ideas and information. This year was to be the thirteenth edition of GAIN at Rice University in June but the Covid 19 pandemic has forced a change in plans. We know we can’t recreate the unique live GAIN experience, instead we have created a whole new learning experience that takes advantage of the connectivity of the internet. I have always believed that adversity is opportunity in disguise. This is an opportunity to get out of our comfort zone and present a unique educational experience in an interactive format – the GAIN Master Class. Read more

The highlight of my year is connecting with the athletic development community at the annual GAIN Conference. In light of our current public health situation, we have decided to reformat GAIN 2020. We are planning to transform this year’s gathering into a digital format to be presented in July. Read more

It has been an extremely stressful time as we watch COVID-19 continue to spread and impact more and more people globally. As an international community, I’ve spoken with GAIN members around the world and heard the many different ways their lives have been affected. Burning questions for the future of training

You might think that the best way to predict the future is to ask the experts what lies ahead. In general, that is actually a poor idea. As Philip Tetlock has researched in depth, experts have a surprisingly poor track record in predicting the future. But there is a subgroup of experts that predict very well. These are not people with the most years of experience of access to the best algorithms. They are the experts who can think broadly, gather evidence from a variety of sources, work in teams, and, importantly, are willing to admit error and change course. Tetlock calls this group foxes.
